To Whom It May Concern re; Weather.

Severe Storm Force 11 once every 2 or 3 years can be quite exciting. But for the 3rd...4th...5th time in one winter? It is getting boring now.

Yes - we have force 11 again, gusts of 80mph+, things blowing around in the garden, in the street, and so on. Boat and flights cancelled, trees down, roads flooded...

Hard to remember that beautiful day on Monday, now.

Are you still there?
I was thinking of you last night as we watched the news.

Yep - all still hanging on. We are remarkably resilient, really!

There are tree down, but nothing too serious.

We are fighting with floods here, so it's great to have a dry day finally.
Good luck with the storm.

I wondered if the weather was hitting you too. Are you OK yourselves? We survived the storm, and the next one isn't expected until... oh... tomorrow.

Yep, I'm ok, and it's getting better in in general. It stopped raining yesterday and we are not supposed to have big amounts of rain in the following days.

Stay safe. We have been lucky here in Aberdeen, some high wind and rain, some of Scotland has snow, but down South is awful :(

I'm really glad they you haven't been battling with the wind and the waves in the way we have. I hope you continue to have a calm winter!

Thank you x

Trust you are safe and secure. So terrible to read the news from the UK right now. Stay safe.

We are pretty resilient - the island gets a lot of winter storms, and we can cope. But it is slowly wearing us down; literally in some places as sea walls have given way.

It will be good to get to spring. A quiet spring, we hope.

Stay safe!

This winter is freaky in Europe. We've had only one week of real snow and frost so far, for the rest, it's spring. It's really upside down.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2014-02-13 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It is totally freaky. We've had a dusting of snow on the hills, but otherwise it has stayed above freezing and just rained, rained, and blown a gale, or worse, almost every week since the middle of November.

It's just getting silly now. Lambing is still a month away but I'm begining to think the unthinkable that this might not have eased up even by then.

I have seen pictures of farmers with their pregnant ewes basically on an island - it is not going to be a good lambing season for them.

We are just praying we do not get a repeat of last year's March snowfall; the final toll was 'over 10% of the island's sheep lost' - about 15,000. Yes - the sheep do outnumber people by about 2:1!

I really do hope that you have dry weather and drier land by the start of lambing.

Thanks, things do look to be calming down next week.

That's a dreadful tally of lost sheep and a terrible blow to your farmers. Fingers crossed for a better spring everywhere this year.
