Husband Update.

S2C has seen the eye specialist, had some tests done, and now has eye drops and ointment to use regularly - it seems as if the surface damage to his eyes is, at least in part, caused by them having become too dry. So far they seem to be helping - with his new glasses, once his drops are in, his sight is better than it was a month or two ago. So, so far, so good.

In other news, winter is icumen in... last night it was below freezing for the first time this winter - this morning I needed to scrape the ice off the car - and tonight looks as if it will be much the same.

It really should make me feel festive and all ready to prepare for Christmas - and I am trying. I am ready to go into church on Saturday morning and decorate the Advent ring; I have bought D-d an Advent Calendar, and one for the Sunday Schoolers; I have some craft stuff ready for Messy Christmas at church...

But as for making cards and so on - I fear I haven't done any. You might get bought ones this year...

I had to scrape my car for the first time this morning, too! The frost on the grass and leaves was very pretty. Today, anyway. By next week it will be, "Oh no, we have to scrape again. When will it be spring?"

The frost on the grass and leaves was very pretty.

Here, too. If there had been less traffic on the way to work I would have stopped to take a picture - and yes, by next week I'll be fed up with it...

I'm sure Christmas is upon us faster and faster each year... I am trying to get the house ready, but the heat, and my little monster, are draining my already limited supply of energy.

You mean the drops that the optometrist says I should put in my eyes really do do something useful? lol

I'm glad S2C's eyes are doing better.

I need to pick an Advent calendar up for Kairi...must remember to do it when I go shopping today, as she's going home tomorrow.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-29 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure Christmas is upon us faster and faster each year...

That is a definite fact - I'm sure if we did the research we could prove it.

And yes - the drops really do seem to be doing something!

Good news indeed.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-29 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It is. And if something so simple can keep his sight where it is now, then it is a God-send.

[identity profile] nutmeg3.livejournal.com 2012-11-29 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Very good news on your husband's eyesight! And please don't worry about where the cards come from, it's just wonderful to get one. :-)

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-29 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That the drops are working is a real relief - to both of us!

And there will, certainly be cards of some sort.

I am glad that the eyedrops are helping S2C - we need our eyes for so many things!

I am struggling with cards this year too - I am getting on with my online list but everyone else will be getting bought ones this year. Part of the problem is that hobbitmum and I used to make our cards together (and because she was more prolific than me I always used to appropriate her spares!) and the contrast with this time last year is... painful.

But I will get there. I'm sure normal service will be resumed next year!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-29 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I can totally understand why you are finding it hard to do some of the things you would usually do with your mum. I have no such good reason not to have got on with mine - it just hasn't really felt like it was time to start - and now it is well past it...

[identity profile] zanthinegirl.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Such good news about S2C's eyes! That had to be pretty scary for both of you.

It's beginning to feel a lot like winter (if not quite christmas yet) here too. I have a garage for my car, but this week I've noticed quite a few of my neighbors having to scrape their windshields. And there was quite a bit of snow on the pass when I drove over for Thanksgiving.

I'm actually taking an LJ break from putting up some christmas stuff right now. Though I can't quite bring myself to put the tree up yet!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
I think I may get away without the scraper this morning - my computer tells me it is now up to 4C out there!

If the drops continue to have such a good effect, and his sight remains as it is, it will be such a relief.

That's such encouraging news about his eyes!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
It really is - putting in drops and ointment is fiddly - but so much better than facing surgery or, even worse, continued rapid deterioration. We are very, very glad.

Good news about S2C! I hope he continues to improve rapidly.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
It is unlikely that his eyes will improve any more than this - but he has always had very poor eye-sight and so this, giving him back reasonable sight when he has his glasses on, with something so non-invasive, is a bit of a wee miracle.

[identity profile] ayinhara.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Wonderful news about S2C's eyes.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
It really is. That something so simple can make things better is just such a relief.

his sight is better than it was a month or two ago
That's good news.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
It really is - we have fingers crossed that it will stay this good now.

[identity profile] deborahw37.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
Hope the drops continue to help.

Freezing here too today! Brrrrrr

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
Hope the drops continue to help.

Us too! Of course he doesn't like the feel of the ointment he has to put in when he goes to bed, but he is beginning to get the hang of putting the drops in for himself.

[identity profile] ellynn-ithilwen.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad to hear his eyes and sight are better. :)

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
It is such a relief - as you can imagine.

Very good news about S2C's eyes.

I can't believe Christmas is so close!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Christmas is scarily close.

As for S2C's eyesight - it is still early days, but so far he seems to be having good days every day...

[identity profile] cairistiona7.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That's very good news about S2C's eyes... will this be something he'll always have to do?

I have my tree up, and the mantel decorated, and my snowman collection out, but I've yet to do the nativity set with its little trees, nor the Christmas village atop the piano. Those will come this weekend. And here the winter weather came for a day or two last weekend but now it's back to "Summer Is Icumen In"! It's suddenly turned unseasonably mild. No complaints, though. It's much easier to run around getting shopping done when you don't have to fiddle with heavy jackets.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It is early days yet - but I think it is possible that he will need to use the drops for life - I actually found someone else who told me that she does when I said at work how he had got on.

We will not start putting up decorations yet - the Second Sunday of Advent is soon enough!

Yesterday's frost did make the place look more wintery - but it is just a little warmer today so no frost.

[identity profile] slaymesoftly.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Have finally worked out a way to make my way through my flist. So far, so good, although I still can't follow a link to another LJ page. *sigh*

Anyway, glad to hear it may be as simple as dry eyes. I carry my drops with me everywhere I go. Just another one of those irritating signs that you're getting older.

Scraped ice off my windshield yesterday morning for the first time. I'm sure it's colder today, but I don't have to go anywhere, so the sun will do it in for me. We're about to have almost a week of quite unseasonably warm weather before it begins to be winter again. Will try to enjoy the outdoors while I can before the cold rain comes back.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Good to see you made it over the hurdles...

The surface of his eyes is, apparently, quite badly damaged but the eye drops are certainly helping him see - if this is all it takes it is a real cause for rejoicing!

It's pretty cold still - down to 2C when I was coming home from work.

[identity profile] calizen.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Had dry eyes for years and years with resulting reddened eyes all the time. When I was younger, people thought I was on marijuana! (Duh). Very glad hubby has found a way to deal with it.

And yes, Xmas just zoomed out of here only a few days ago, didn't it? Why the hell is it back so fast?

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
His eyes aren't red, or sore looking at all; which is a shame, in a way, because if they were it might have occurred to someone sooner - he has just had deteriorating sight - apparently caused by damage to the surface of his eyes. But, although it probably can't be repaired, the drops do seem to make it easier for him to see - and if this is all it takes we are very, very, happy!

This has been a very short year...

A friend was warned that she didn't blink enough when using a computer when she had blurry vision. I wonder if SC2 has the same problem?

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder if SC2 has the same problem?

It really is quite possibe - but how on earth do you teach yourself to blink more, I wonder? Whatever has caused it, he has apparently got quite marked surface damage, but the drops are certainly doing something, as he is finding it easier to focus and he has less double vision - hurrah!

[identity profile] mummy-owl.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Eye drops can be wonderful things! I'm so glad they work as the other options are scary :-O

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It will be so good if they really do stop the deterioration - he has always had very poor eyesight, but it had been deteriorating rapidly recently - and if this is all that is needed it is brilliant.

I love the icon, by the way.

I'm glad those eye drops are helping!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
They are - something so simple really is having an effect.

[identity profile] estelcontar1.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
That is good news about your husband. Dry eye syndrome is very bothersome but entirely reversible. I have it, and so does my sister. Now I only use the regular dry eye eyedrops, but when it was really bad I had to use the eyedrops and the dry eye gel eyedrops too. They work believe me.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly there is permanent damage to the surface of the eye - or at least it seems to be permanent - but if his sight does not deteriorate further it will be a blessing. He had very poor sight to begin with and, when he saw the ophthalmic consultant on Monday, he was told that his sight was not good enough, even with his new glasses on, to drive :(

It is already better, though, so hopefully he will be allowed to again. Not that he drives very much, but he does sometimes use the car to go to work.

[identity profile] estelcontar1.livejournal.com 2012-12-01 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm betting it's not permanent. It may take awhile but I'm sure your husband's eyesight will go back to what it was before he started suffering from dry eye syndrome. Mine did.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2012-12-01 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I do hope you're right. Tonight it was not so good when he got up - but the average is still better than it was a couple of weeks ago...

[identity profile] estelcontar1.livejournal.com 2012-12-02 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It may take a while but his eyesight is going to improve, believe me.

[identity profile] chaotic-binky.livejournal.com 2012-12-01 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
It was minus 5 here today. I thought I would freeze to death!!!

Good news about S2C's eyes. Hopefully, the drops will mean an end to his problem or make it manageable at least.

Brrr.... we don't usually get as cold - the first few winters after we came home from North shields it seemed rather boringly bland!

But it's been in minus figures for the past couple of nights now. We're up to +5 at the moment - hurrah!

If the drops are all it needs it will be such good news - although there is no point in giving in to my inclination to say 'why didn't it occur to you that your eyes were drying out and that might be a problem, ages ago?' Because he will doubtless say 'How was I to know they were drier than other people's? They are the only ones I've got, I had no control to compare them with..'

[identity profile] x19narya90x.livejournal.com 2012-12-02 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
My car was so frosty this morning it looked like it had grown fur!

Glad S2C is doing better :)
