Mystery of the Disappearing icons.

Some of my icons have disappeared. I go to my user pics and there are blanks. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to which ones. Yesterday one had gone, by today it is seven.

I know there have been icon problems in the past; but has this happened to anyone else recently, or is it just me?

ETA - it seems it certainly isn't just me - and cairistiona7 has pointed out that it is probably related to the maintenance on-going at the moment. So hopefully they'll just sneak back, looking a bit sheepish, later...

LJ is doing maintenance on the photo/icon areas. They said that userpics and photos may not be visible at times but that they'll reappear... they're not lost, in other words. *crossing fingers they're right*

Ironically, one of the communities that's highlighted this week is based on posting old or lost photos. I bet those folks are having a conniption fit right now.

Ah yes - I noticed that, but it didn't immediately click - I guess they're doing maintenance because there were problems before they started - I noticed Elladan was missing yesterday - poor lad!

I'm rather relieved it's not just me - hopefully they'll come home wagging their tails behind them...

The worst of it is that one of the missing ones is my Granny Weatherwax saying 'I can't be doing with this.' :~~)

Hmm - it's all a bit random then! Could be a whole new way of wasting time on LJ when I should be doing other things - playing 'spot the icon'.

At least it is just random gaps - not like the time when other people's icons were showing up at random instead - which was positively disturbing!

It seems to be a widespread problem - and quite possibly related to them doing some maintenance work - so hopefully, like Mary's little lamb, they'll come home, wagging their tails behind them...

That sounds hopeful. The most annoying thing is that one of the missing ones is Granny Weatherwax saying "I can't be having with this sort of thing!' Which would be the ideal icon for the situation...

I haven't checked my icons, but two of the pics I had uploaded disappeared. Very odd.

They are doing some sort of maintenance on the picture bits, apparently, and so hopefully everything will eventually return of its own accord.

Oh yes, it happened to me. I went in to upload some icons, and notice a couple of blanks. Bandwidth problems maybe?

Cairistiona has pointed out that it could well be related to the maintenance announcement earlier... I hope so, as that should mean that they come home under their own steam - like Mary's little lambs!

My icons are all right but *all* the photos and artwork that I uploaded to Scrapbook are *gone*. Eeek!

The gaps are still there yet. I'll give them until the weekend and then I'll just upload them again. Fortunately I have an icon file on my hard drive.

LJ posted something somewhere earlier today that they would be doing some stuff that would probably affect pictures and so forth. They promise it will all be well when they are finished. :)

Mine started to disappear before that - but I guess that's why they have to do the maintenance. I'm hoping they'll be back soon - they aren't yet - but I'm not holding my breath!

So far, this time, mine seem to be staying around. Earlier in the year they kept getting replaced with other random ones - that was uber-weird!

Oh I remember that it was horrible - you'd click on an icon that is meant to be a flower, or Winnie-the-Pooh, and they got a man in a kilt flashing!

Hmm - as my missing ones include Granny Weatherwax, Bagpuss, Arwen from Lord of the Rings and Michael Praed as Robin of Sherwood that might have been quite a night...
