curiouswombat: (Oh Dear)

I fail....

I not only just fail, I am made of fail...

So - [livejournal.com profile] quinara decided that it would be good for there to be a community for writing Plot without Porn - with a posting window over this weekend. Now I don't usually get involved with 'post to order' communities - but this is Quinara, and it is such a good idea... So back in January I said - 'I'll do it!'

But I've been involved with Brotherhood - which has mostly plot, and only tasteful sex, honestly - and the story in my head for Plot without Porn simply stayed there - in my head.

Then I saw people mentioning it in their journals... Meep! I thought, better get on with it!

So - I went and checked the rules - including the all-important events must progress from beginning to end. To describe one of my own fics, a character walking into a room and catalysing a complicated reunion is not a plot. We want external action, people, not just internal. - and started writing.

Except that I am still only 1,500 words in, and at this point I still have Dawn aka Tindómë in Middle Earth worrying about Spike, and Spike in an unidentified small town in our world feeling lonely since Buffy died, and thinking about Dawn. So - not really past the 'character walking into a room and catalysing a complicated reunion' point - and it is Saturday.

I admit defeat - I fail - I haven't got to the plot. Apologies to Quinara.

And is it more fail, or a reason to not fret too much over not having the story finished, that when I wondered why I wasn't seeing other people's PwP posts on my Friends List I realised that I had never actually got around to joining the community?

Fail, wombat - fail, fail, fail!

Don't worry about it! I'm in with the comm maintainer, and I think she has a soft spot for you...

(Seriously, considering how close I came to not having somegthing ready for my own ficathon, I can't exactly get stone-throwing happy... It got to today and I realised it was do-or-die as far as editing went - luckily things went well enough for me to feel I could post.)

Do come in and have a read though, if you've got time - the water's lovely!

Oooh - good!

I am definitely coming over to read though. Tomorrow afternoon, I think - now that I don't have any more baking to do!

YOUR ICON IS HILARIOUS!! If there had been even the smallest thing for which you weren't forgiven, it's all gone now...

*joins the fail also* Though in my defense, until two weeks ago, I couldn't write a thing for ages>

Oooo! Look! Icon!

THAT IS EPIC! I think it counts as a fic on its own.

And seriously no worries about the fail - someone other than me posted fic, so I'm calling the whole thing a success! (Don't bring me down, man... /Neil from the Young Ones)

I have already read Ningloreth's post.

It has got me 1,500 words into the story to follow Brotherhood as well!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad that I'm not the only one!

You could probably have gotten away with just posting your icon...

Alas, these things happen. One of the reasons I don't do them anymore. At least not for anything long.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
I usually stay away from them for anything longer than a drabble - I think I'd better stick to that.

{{hugs you}}

Also? that sounds really interesting. I hope you write it!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks - I will, indeed, write it - especially as it is already 1,500 words into the first chapter. I think I'll leave it there for now, though, until I've finished Brotherhood.

*pets you* We all have brain slips now and then.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
Now you can see why I never sign up for any of the other communities with posting dates!

[identity profile] evilawyer.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
These things happen. With alarming frequency as time goes by, I notice in myself.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
'Ah - it's the ages that's on us...' as one of my elderly clients says.

[identity profile] evilawyer.livejournal.com 2009-06-15 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to have to steal this line to use myself, I think.

[identity profile] ningloreth.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
LOL! I was only just in time -- and the story is nowhere near as polished as I would have liked :-(

I hope you'll finish your Spike story & post it after The Brotherhood!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
I have decided to look at it as just getting a head-start on the story in question - which will be continued after I finish Brotherhood.

I have a Christmas story in mind too - perhaps I'd better make a start on that in the next couple of weeks!!

I liked yours - but you can now go back and polish where you think it needs it before putting it onto Eryn Carantaur.

[identity profile] ningloreth.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
Good! (It's nice to have an ongoing story cycle to read).

Yes, I find it's best to start the Christmas stuff really early!

you can now go back and polish

Just what I was thinking!

[identity profile] sammywol.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my poor wombat! *hugs*
If it any help I hated the people who didn't post at alla lot less than I hate the people who post the start of a great story and then promise the rest on their LJ and never, ever bloody bother. I still have a few ghosts on my FList that I think - why am I reading this person again? - and then I remember, NoelofSpike three years ago and still waiting damnit!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I hate that too - Beter to admit defeat, I think!

Although I do have one WIP left airborn. Must go back to Istanbul....

Whilst I do not feel the bit written is adequate to fit the remit, I am pleased that it is written - I will get on with it once Brotherhood is finished. Although I really must get back to Istanbul...

[identity profile] bogwitch.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I flunked too.:(

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Better to flunk than post a bit of something that is unlikely to be finished, as Sammywol said in her comment. That is what I tell myself, anyway!
