Proud Parent Post.

This is just a proud parent squee!

Daughter-dear has an unconditional offer to study post-grad Law next year at the College of Law in York - exactly what and where she wanted.

She comments that Permission to fuck up all the rest of my exams has been granted I guess!
But knowing her I don't think she is likely to start slacking... Well I hope not!

She was actually home on a flying visit at the weekend, to attend a couple of important birthday celebrations, and to say goodbye to her 'best friend since playgroup' who is going travelling for a year or two. They went out for afternoon tea, and D-d was wearing a skirt that I really love, so when she got home I took her photograph.

The only thing is that she had been walking close to the sea, and also crying at saying goodbye to Jenny, and so, when I looked properly at the picture, her beautiful skirt is all blotchy!

Congrats to her! :) Kieran did that course!

She is dead chuffed, and really happy to be staying in York - as you will well appreciate!

Seems no time since you were giving us hints on the best place to park on campus on her first day...

Congrats to her !

The skirt looks great !

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
She is very happy - I'm sure you recognise the sense of relief at getting that offer of a place.

The skirt is lovely, isn't it?

She looks a lovely girl. You have every right to be proud of her.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you - we are, very!

But this icon is made from her own favourite picture of herself!

That's fabulous news... congratulations to her! And the skirt is lovely.

I actually saw your daughter and her friends in town on Saturday... not that I know them, of course, but I recognised your daughter and (is it Jenny?) her friend from the recent charity pics!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes - that would be Jenny! They were celebrating Hannah's 21st and Steve-Hannah's-boyfriend's 30th.

It's odd - I skipped through my FL without commenting much, due to cat on the computer problems, but when I saw you saying that you were out on Saturday I suddenly thought 'I wonder if she bumped into Katherine et al?'

[identity profile] petzipellepingo.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations all around!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, she is really happy, and we are very proud of her.

And, of course, she will be able to keep us in style when we grow old...

[identity profile] beanbeans.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my goodness! Congratulations to her! What wonderful news- proud parent squee away!

She's been on tenter-hooks waiting for the letter - so she is now really, really happy!

The skirt was from M&S Per Una about three years ago - she has lost weight since she bought it, so now it sits on her hips rather than her waist - but it is lovely.

[identity profile] inzilbeth-liz.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi Curiouswombat, I hope you don't mind that I've friended you. Many congrats to your daughter. She looks lovely and I'm sure she'll have a great time at York. It's such a beautiful city.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello! Welcome!

I am always amazed at how pretty she is - I think she is a changeling... Actually, she looks rather like my husband's sister - she is lucky to not look more like me - honestly!

She is just finishing her History degree in York, so she already knows, and loves, the city - which is why she wanted to stay there to do her post-grad work.

[identity profile] julia-here.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations to all of you!

Julia, I envy that jacket, myself

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
She bought the jacket three years ago, and then lost weight, so it is a bit big for her, and sat in her wardrobe for a while, almost forgotten. Then she took it out and realised that it still looked good, even if a little big, and has worn it for 'best' two or three times over this winter.

It has embroidery on the back, too - I am also envious of it!

[identity profile] appomattoxco.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats! and I love that outfit.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you - and you can see why I wanted a photo of her in that skirt and jacket!

Many congrats to her on the unconditional offer. That's a gorgeous skirt but I really like the jacket too :)

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
The jacket came from River Island's sale about three years ago, and then sat in the wardrobe until this winter - when she realised that, despite losing weight, it still looked good, and it has been worn a few times over this winter! I really like it too. Oh, and the back is embroidered too...

Golly, she's pretty. And good for her scholastic success!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Scrubs up well...!! She is so happy to know what she is doing with her life for the next two years, and for it to be what she wants to do where she wants to do it is really good.

[identity profile] hesadevil.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations to your hard-working daughter. You are rightly proud of her. She's a lovely girl and a credit to you both.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you, on her behalf, and ours!

Well done K! Another year in York is a pretty good star prize! And that really is a very pretty skirt.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Two years even - they also guarantee her a place on their LPC!

I am envious of the skirt, but never likely to be able to borrow it...

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/woman_of_/ 2009-03-11 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow such great news. It is great to read through my friends list and find things are working out for people. Especially in such levels of achievement.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It is really good news - she is so pleased.

And just think how well she'll be able to keep us when we grow old...

[identity profile] empresspatti.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Your daughter is smart and lovely. What a terrific combination.

Skirt is beautiful btw!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
She is remakably pretty considering her parentage!

This icon, though, is her own favourite picture of herself...

I wish I was slim enough to borrow that skirt - but I am never likely to be.

[identity profile] cairistiona7.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats on her accomplishment... and yours, because good students have good parents, usually. Your daughter is very pretty. :)

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you - we are very proud of her. She is much prettier than either parent!

[identity profile] ayinhara.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
As was said above, smart and lovely is a wonderful combination. Congratulations to her, you and S2C.

BTW I think the outfit is smashing!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
She says, looking through the small print of the 'standard requirements'. that she does actually have to obtain her B.A....

You can see why I wanted a picture of her in that outfit.

[identity profile] just-ann-now.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, she's lovely! Congratulations to her, and to all of you!

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
She is rather pretty - much prettier than either parent!

Although one of the best things about her is that she is good company - we have interesting conversations - this is a short entry in my husband's journal (http://speakr2customrs.livejournal.com/249685.html) which illustrates what I mean...

Many, many congratulations! Bask, relax and be happy! You must have done something right and maybe it was worth all those agonizing races to the ferry to get her to college on time.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

Or I could just be sitting here going 'Oh No! Two more years of mad dashes to the boat!'. Actually I might give her my little car to take back eventually, and she can make her own dashes.

Many congratulations! It's a relief to have things settled, especially when it goes exactly as planned and wished. It's so wonderful to see our children succeed.

Lovely ensemble, but the girl outshines it all.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
It's so wonderful to see our children succeed.

Absolutely.

We are both very blessed in our children.

How wonderful! Although studying law...I never like to encourage that ;) Congratulations to D-d though, and you're right to be proud.

[identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

She wants to do corporate law, she thinks. She found she enjoyed all the stuff to do with preventing money laundering, shipping registers, legal crewing requirements etc. when she worked at the shipping agency.

[identity profile] peabodyblue.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Congratulations to your d-d and to her parents! You must be so proud! :)

I can't believe how fast time has flown!

I know - it seems like no time since we were rejoicing that York uni had offered her a place, and here she is planning post-grad!
