Greetings from Scotland.

Hello from wettest Scotland. It took me seven hours to drive from York to Ballantrae - not too bad, as it was a long drive for me. It took Dorothy even longer to get down from Skye, though!

The B&B we are staying at is wonderful - we basically have a tiny cottage each.

When I arrived my laptop was totally dead - nothing was showing even a flicker of life - but this morning it woke up bright and perky and back to normal - goodness knows why it had been down. I wasn't too worried, though, as it is my old one, just in case!

Anyway - back to the trip - it rained heavily all last night, and much of today - so we visited Culzean Castle which is about 15 to 20 miles from here. A fascinating house - interesting to see where they kept adding bits on, mainly trying to get the best of the sea-views, and make it more 'romantic' looking. The grounds were water logged in places, but we have not been anywhere near as affected by the weather as some of the towns around here - the local news shows that some of them are flooded.

Not too sure what we will do with ourselves tomorrow, yet, I think it might depend, to an extent, on which town is not under water!.

Rained here last night, but been dry during the day. I visited that castle a long time ago, but in the summer, the grounds were wonderful, and full of bloom!

Thank you - it is only a short break, but so nice to meet up with my friend, as well.

It seems to have been even wetter close by - Castle Douglas has bits flooded. Maybe not go there tomorrow...

It is a nice break, though.

Even soggy, the grounds are lovely, but we didn't walk around them a lot, I fear

Hi! We are eating wonderfully well - I have just had quail stuffed with haggis, local cod with vegetables, and a blackcurrant creme brulee!

Haggis! One of those foods that I have only read about so far, and would someday love to try!

I'm so envious-I LOVE Scotland! I hope you have a wonderful time, and that the weather clears. Good for your laptop, waking up for you. They're notional little critters, aren't they!

Lol! Culzean's gardens were always one of my mum's favourite day out places, except we'd park at the Maidens and then walk in along the beach because we were too mean to pay the entry. I have been inside the castle once, with a primary school trip, but about all I can remember was the painting with the 'moving' foot.

It is meaty and spicy and makes a lovely stuffing.

On a clear day, from my Mum's, you can see this bit of Scotland - so it is realy nice to actually visit it, even if it is shrouded in mist and cloud! The laptop is still behaving perfectly well, thank goodness.

we'd park at the Maidens and then walk in along the beach . Good idea!

I didn't know that any of the paintings was meant to have a 'moving foot'. Some of them are rather impressive, though.

These days you can stay in the suite they had created for Eisenhower, for about £200 per night, or have your wedding in the castle; or both, I guess!

Stay dry -- if possible!

Have fun in Bonny Scotland! And do not fall into a loch or a broch.

You are feasting like royalty! That sounds delicious.

Will there be photos later?

I have taken a few - some of the little cottage, a few of the scenery, but probably should have taken more.

I head for home tomorrow morning, get home about 6pm, so might put them up then, or Monday.

It has been lovely today - staying dry was easy... as long as we avoided the flooded bits!

There has been so much rain that there are lochs where there should be fields. We were saying 'Hmm - is that Loch Ken, or a flooded field? Ah - it is four or five flooded fields - Loch Ken is a bit further down. Spilling over the road!'
