To Whom It May Concern re; Weather.

Severe Storm Force 11 once every 2 or 3 years can be quite exciting. But for the 3rd...4th...5th time in one winter? It is getting boring now.

Yes - we have force 11 again, gusts of 80mph+, things blowing around in the garden, in the street, and so on. Boat and flights cancelled, trees down, roads flooded...

Hard to remember that beautiful day on Monday, now.

Apparently it also included the highest "sea state" (which starts with Calm and goes up through Rough, Very Rough, High and Very High) they've ever had to use:

Phenomenal.

Which basically means "waves three times as high as your house" and is the sort of thing you would normally expect in the Southern Ocean or the Roaring Forties.

Erk.

I'm guessing it was one of those that hit the Marco Polo yesterday.

I think, although we get treacherous seas that do sink quite big vessels sometimes, those 60 foot and above ones only form when they have been rolling across the Atlantic for a long time - and Ireland and Cornwall between them have been taking the brunt of them and sheltering us a little. We've just got to High over and over this winter.
