Getting stuff done... for the WriterconUK Event

I seem to have been too busy to post much - and I have some rather nice pictures for my occasional 'country churches of the island' series ready to go. Maybe tomorrow.

I've been busy with on-line meetings to finalise stuff for the meet-up in Coventry this weekend, and then doing my bit towards making attendee badges, and a few interesting items for goody-bags. The wonderful [livejournal.com profile] bogwitch has done the goody bags for years, but last year she felt she done enough and handed it on. I totally appreciate, now if not then, just how much work she did!

Sadly there are so few coming this time that it may be the last such event - there is little energy to organise if no-one really wants it, and anyway there need to be enough people to make hiring the meeting rooms and so on viable.

I think it will be the major talking point at the usual Sunday morning AGM.

Still - if it is the last one, I want to do my bit to try to keep the organisation, and the goody bags, up to the high standard of previous years - so best get on with it!

I also am still trying to get to grips with my new toys - I posted pics here in Photoscavenger and an explanation as to why a shiny new smart phone, and a shiny new tablet, were posted in response to the challenge 'Oh dear!'. They have got to get me through the trip to Coventry and a further few days in London - but I think I'm getting there...

No!! WriterCon UK HAS TO GO ON. We Yanks had our last one in 2009, and I have to know that WriterCon UK will always be there.

OK, rant over. I know I'm being selfish, but I can't bear the thought of you guys folding your tents, too.

Oh, I DO hope it continues for you. Is there any reason for the lack of interest? How many people attend?

Shiny new toys can be very aggravating, can't they? The learning curve gets steeper with age.

Ooo! Pretty! Don't worry, grab a local 6 year old he will put you straight in about 5 minutes!(Says she who still has to make it into the valley for lessons in how to use her tablet!)

What's wrong with two cans and a piece of string? Post cards, remember those, you turned them over and you could write on them and then mail them to people and then they got to read them!

You will get there, just keep tapping things and it will sort itself out.

Lynda

It's something I'd love to come to, but alas, money can be spent only once:-{

We hope it will - but we are simply facing reality because there is not a lot of point in people organising it if so few come.

But we three are doing our best to make this one, if small, at least shiny and fun!

People are just drifting off - some to go to other, bigger, conferences, others with family commitments, and there are not a lot of new people coming in, just as there are not a lot of new people on LJ, which is where we began and are based.

So we used to have about 28-30. Last year there were 22. This year it is 17.

And I am getting to terms with the tablet and the phone - but it is taking time.

I got my twenty-something daughter to give me lessons - I'm getting there!

That is the problem for so many people. Which we fully understand - anything involving a stay away from home is an unnecessary expense for a lot of people, which is why we need to look hard at whether it is worth keeping going.

But, if we do keep going, maybe sometime you can have a trip to England at the time it is on and fit it in!

All things come to an end. It's just extra painful for me that the end has come this year of all years.

It might not be the last - but it is a possibility, I feel.

I have a couple of ideas that might be useful for keeping it going with fewer attendees.

Chemo starts again tomorrow so may be late logging in on Saturday.
