curiouswombat: (notes from a small island)
Add MemoryShare This Entry
At the beginning of 2011 there was something of a scandal on the small island - a GP was summarily removed from a practice by his partners with no notice, and no explanation except to reassure everyone that it had nothing to do with his medical skills.

There were rumours of theft, or sexual shenanigans, he was interviewed by the police; and then it went quiet and he disappeared off the radar.

However, this morning, on the local news we found out what had been going on back then, from reports of his hearing in front of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal of the General Medical Council.

Here is a link to the story.

Read down to his apology in the next to last paragraph - clearly his laptop drove him to it... it tempted him... he couldn't resist...

S2C is now worried in case his ever exerts such influence over him one night, as he does sometimes take it to work to write in his breaks.

LOL! Yeah... those wily laptops, forcing people to do bad things.

Naughty, naughty, laptop...

I really don't think the other partners would have been exactly ecstatic if he had done it in a different setting, either, to be honest!

Hee! Poor S2C is going to have to resist! Or, you know, leave the laptop home...

Yep - 'cause otherwise he'll be there talking to a customer and suddenly he'll have this urge to drop his trousers and... oops!

Tsk, tsk... it's just sad how those computers can slap us around and make us do naughty things...

One minute he's writing out a prescription for some elderly gentleman's blood pressure medication and... whoops!

Well, that's a new one. Apparently, Skynet really is controlling us...

That naughty tempting laptop!

There he was in the surgery, thinking about patients, and then that naughty, naughty, webcam took over his brain...

Oh noes. I have *two* laptops.

Doooooomed.

Yep - totally doooomed... without you having any control over yourself at all, you'll get this urge to become a naughty you-tube star...

Yes - definitely the laptop's fault and it has been a very naughty influence. Why are some men so proud about satisfying themselves that they have to have proof and then send that to someone?!?!? "look what I can do" ...... *eyeroll*

posted by [identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com at 08:39pm on 03/10/2012
They are such a bad influence, these laptops.

Although there was a sense not only of "look what I can do" - but "look where I can do it..."!

And yet, how very unsexy a doctor's consulting room is - and if he thought otherwise I'm remarkably glad he wasn't my GP!

Good heavens! A very 21st century predicament!

Yes because, of course, if you take your laptop to work it will tempt you to 'commit acts of indecency' as the more polite local news site put it... Not a problem his predecessors ever had!

Good Heavens! I'm happy to report that the worse my laptop has ever tempted me to do is buy dresses from ebay and it might me me to blame not the laptop!

posted by [identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com at 08:44pm on 03/10/2012
Oh Linda - I've just got a mental image of Dr Smith sitting at his desk in a nice dress from E-bay! It is a much better mental image than I would get if I accidentally imagined what he was actually up to - which I am managing not to, thank goodness!

"My laptop made me do it" Why, yes. A well-known and recognized defense for any number of things. I've used it myself. Evil things - laptops....

Nasty evil minded objects that force people into all sorts of unpleasant things that they would never think of themselves!

There was a doctor sacked from my surgery for hiding a camera under the toilet rim and making films of his girlfriend going to the toilet. She reported him to the police and they found that the camera also filmed her kids and anyone else who used it. He was struck off. He was a crap doctor so the GMC's decision probably saved a few lives.

He blamed his laptop rather than himself - well that devious laptop needs to be struck off too lol

I think that is even worse - but wonder now if there is some conspiracy to give doctors evil, mind-controlling, laptops...

posted by [identity profile] chaotic-binky.livejournal.com at 08:53pm on 03/10/2012
I wonder if female doctors are at risk as well. You never hear of them being struck off because of evil laptops.

You never hear of them being struck off because of evil laptops.

Good point... perhaps we are more lap-top resistant. Or, you know, less stupid!

He made films of people going to the toilet?? That really is disturbing ...

posted by [identity profile] chaotic-binky.livejournal.com at 09:02pm on 03/10/2012
Yes he did. I stopped going to him because he I considered him dangerous - he had a set of stock diagnoses according to sex and age and never deviated from them. I never thought he would do anything like that though.

Naughty laptop! But seriously, why can't people take responsibility for their own actions?

posted by [identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com at 08:59pm on 03/10/2012
Absolutely. "I wouldn't have been tempted to sit in my consulting room wanking if I hadn't been able to film it," seems to me to be a very poor excuse...

posted by [identity profile] cairistiona7.livejournal.com at 09:14pm on 03/10/2012
Oh my. Somewhere in there must be a wickedly funny double entendre about laptops and men fiddling with their junk but I'm too tired today to figure it out...

posted by [identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com at 09:20pm on 03/10/2012
Yes - it's more the content of the lap than the content of the laptop that he should be blaming! Not to mention the contents of his brain. Stupid man.

Oh dear...
Most people have said what I think here but HOW could he be SO stupid?
And we all know that laptops, cell phones and such are OF THE DEVIL.
LOL

posted by [identity profile] curiouswombat.livejournal.com at 09:47pm on 03/10/2012
Yes - it was really, really, stupid behaviour. I mean, fine in the privacy of your own home - but in the not-privacy of a consulting room in a busy GP practice whilst at work?

But his demonic laptop drove him to it, so that's all right... or not!

posted by [identity profile] estelcontar1.livejournal.com at 09:44pm on 03/10/2012
LOL!

Laptops are wicked and eviiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiil, Precioussssssssssssssssssss. Yes, they are.
