Where I Live Day/Week.... and Very!Bad!Writing!

My icon wombat is worn out - so am I. I have been busy for two evenings trying to put together a 'photo-album' online, to be printed as a gift to a family who are leaving church to move to Scotland. I tried it via Photobucket last night, as a lot of the pictures were there - I took about 3 hours and then discovered that it would be printed in the USA and the postage would cost $40.00! So I abandoned that and started again on Snapfish this evening.

It took me a couple of hours on Snapfish, as I had to re-upload some of the pictures from my originals to get better quality - but I am actually a lot happier with how it looks anyway - and total cost, including postage, is £11.98 - so about $18 or so. I'm sure it will be worth the effort though!

But it does mean that I didn't make the post here I meant to last night.

Firstly Where I Live Day - a long time ago a conversation on LJ began about how much we were learning about the realities of where other people lived - whether it was a city in our own country that we had never visited, or one on the other side of the world - and the idea came that it would be nice to have a Where I live Day when we posted pictures of... where we lived. The still missed Frimfram and I set up a community where people could post the pictures and so see places that others were willing to share even if not on each other's friends list. It is, however, a members' locked community so that the pictures were/are only on 'open display' if people choose to post them on their own journal, or anywhere else.

That first day was a great success - so much so that we have done it again a few times over the years, as some of the original members have moved on, and others of us have new friends who might like to take part. But one day seemed a bit restrictive... however the Comm has such a good name based on the original acronym - so [livejournal.com profile] wild_photos will be open for business for a whole week - July 28th - August 4th. Come and join the comm, you can browse the pictures already there, and post your own any time that week. Everywhere is of interest - everyone loves to see the realities of life in other places.

And it is so much easier to post pics now than it was back in 2005!

And the second 'pimp' is for the examples of really bad writing! we did for fun at the WriterConUK Event in Coventry a few weeks ago. The Bad! Romance! has sadly gone missing - crumbs! But the Bad!Sex!Scene! and the Bad!Death!Scene! are both there for your amusement.

That photo album is a wonderful gift. I hope the recipients appreciate it, and enjoy it for many years.

I was thinking about WILD the other day, and was hoping we could do it again this year. I'd better break out the camera!

Thank you. I have to say that it was both fun and a little sad to find pictures of them from when they were tiny up to the present day. I am really looking forward to seeing it, now!

I am looking forward to it - although at the moment where I live is under constant damp and cloud. A friend said yesterday "If I didn't have a calendar I would be saying that it's quite mild for mid-October."

I've thought of using those services to print an album before. I hope it turns out well - let us know? And that is precisely the week I won't be where I live, hmmm. Still, it will be nice to see other people's pictures.

I have been planning to do a similar thing for a while, put some of my photos into an album online and get it printed. I have been recommended some possible sites, so I would be interested to know how yours turns out.

My daughter had all 365 of the ones I did for the 365 project put into an album for me at Snapfish a couple year or two ago and it is very nice - but it is just the photos, 3 to a page, this one is one with a pretty background and text - I hope! So I will definitely report back!

You can take your pictures in the weeks before, just post them then... :)

D-d had my 365 pictures all made into a single album - but it is 3 pics to the page and nothing but the pictures - this one should have text and coloured backgrounds - I will certainly report back on it!

Ah, but that's my annual Week Without Internet, you see, so the posting's the problem. I look forward to hearing about your album, anyway!

I guess we'd let you in a day late....

Hmm, that might be possible. I can't remember, are posts queued until the posting week starts?

The photo album is a great idea. We did one for my sister when she turned 50. It wasn't an online one, but we contacted all her friends and acquaintances who send pictures of important moments, and we managed to cover her entire life. She was really touched by it as I think your friends will.

I've made books of the candid photos I've snapped at weddings, and the brides have been most appreciative. I'm still working on the one for Evil Miss S and her Minion. I took entirely took many photos. I started processing them and got halfway through when I learned some new techniques with light balancing, and then I was unhappy with all the ones I'd done, and I started over! I hope to have a book for her anniversary.

Do you mind if I pimp WILD on my LJ? (That sounds so dirty!)

Oh please do!

Snapfish was quite interesting to use for the book - I think I might do some more if it looks good when I get it.

I realised that I could print the pictures off my computer and get a slip-in album, but thought it would be interesting to try the online version - it will be interesting to see if it looks like I expect it too, now.

The parents said they really didn't want a leaving gift or any fuss - but the children are a bit different - and when I mentioned it to some of the other Elders they all thought the parents would think it an excellent idea. Mind you, I'd have done it anyway...!

We usually just say post anytime that week. I'm not sure whether pre-dating would keep it from appearing on friends lists until the date on them, or something... but otherwise you certainly, also, have my permission to post early!
